“The Palisades,” resting serenely in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains and overlooking Santa Monica Bay, neighbors the equally upscale communities of Brentwood, Malibu and Santa Monica. Its approximately 25,000 residents – many of them celebrities, entertainment executives and business moguls — enjoy a charming downtown core, “the village,” which offers boutiques, restaurants and other amenities and services as well as a delightful Sunday farmer’s market. Pacific Palisades hosts a variety of abodes including upscale apartments and condominiums, bungalows and multi-million-dollar estates. Breathtaking ocean and mountain views are an accoutrement of many Palisades homes.
The community was founded in 1922 by Charles Scott, a Southern California minister who hoped to create a religious commune. Eleven years prior, film director Thomas Ince had established a film production facility in the area. At its zenith it employed 600 people. Today, although most of the town’s residents work in other areas of Los Angeles and beyond, they have a strong sense of civic pride and participation in community events.
Pacific Palisades is home to five public and six private schools and four beautiful parks, including Will Rogers State Historic Park & Polo Club.
